Letting Go of Who I Thought I Had to Be:
Releasing Old Money Beliefs to Realign with My Soul
For so many years—especially as a single mum—I lived by the same few phrases:
“I can’t afford it.”
“I’m skint.”
“I’ve got no money.”
They weren’t just things I said. They were things I believed. They felt like truth—solid, unquestionable, and deeply woven into who I thought I was.
I didn’t realise at the time that I was repeating patterns and beliefs that didn’t truly belong to me. These weren’t conscious affirmations; they were inherited stories passed down through generations trying to survive. They were familiar, but they weren’t aligned with who I was becoming.
The Echoes of Childhood Conditioning
Growing up, I heard certain money phrases over and over again:
• “Scrimp and save.”
• “You’ve got to remember we’re poor.”
• “We can’t afford it.”
Those words became background music in my life—quietly influencing how I viewed money, worth, and what was possible for me.
As a child, I absorbed them without question. As a young woman and eventually a mother, they became the lens I saw the world through. Even as I began doing spiritual work and supporting others in aligning with their higher selves, I was still carrying these subconscious stories about lack.
⸻
The Invisible Blocks They Created
These beliefs didn’t just shape my thoughts—they shaped my energy.
They influenced how I priced my work, how I received money, and whether I felt comfortable investing in myself. I would catch myself saying “I’ll make do,” “I don’t need much,” or “I can’t justify spending on that,” even when something would truly support my growth.
Underneath all of that was a silent question I wasn’t yet brave enough to ask:
What if these beliefs are keeping me small?
When I finally did ask that question, everything began to shift.
⸻
Letting Go with Compassion, Not Judgment
Letting go of those beliefs didn’t happen overnight. It wasn’t just about “thinking positive” or saying new affirmations. It was about going within, recognising where these stories had come from, and gently saying:
“Thank you for trying to protect me. But I no longer need this belief to be safe. I choose something new.”
It meant allowing myself to rewrite the script—to stop clinging to an identity built around struggle, and to begin embracing one built on soul-led abundance.
I started choosing beliefs like:
• Money is energy, and I’m open to receiving it with grace.
• I am worthy of support, ease, and overflow.
• There is more than enough—for me, and for everyone.

A Practice for Releasing Old Money Stories
If this resonates with you, here’s a gentle way to begin your own process of letting go:
📝 Journal Prompts:
• What beliefs or sayings about money did I grow up with?
• How have those shaped my relationship with abundance?
• What am I ready to release now?
• What do I choose to believe instead?
🌬 Simple Energy Ritual:
Close your eyes and bring to mind a phrase like “I can’t afford it” or “I’m skint.” Imagine it as a heavy stone in your hands. Breathe deeply and say:
“I release this with love. It no longer defines me. I now choose beliefs that align with my soul, my worth, and my purpose.”
Visualise the stone dissolving into light and being carried away. Feel the lightness that follows.

From Survival to Soul-Led Living
You didn’t come here to merely survive—you came to rise, to embody truth, to walk in your power.
You’re the one who has held space, transmuted pain, and kept the light burning through the dark.
Now, you open.
You rise into receiving. You expand without apology.
You remember that abundance, growth, and divine support were always your birth right.
And the rising begins the moment you release what no longer resonates with the truth of who you are becoming.
